The mountain goes boom in the night.
A violent shaking of the earth wakes up the village and our caravan crew. An avalanche of toxic gas and grime blows from the west over the valley. We take cover in and under our carts, but a layer of gross goop gets in any and all orifices available. A toxic mist settles upon the survivors, who the party does its best to evacuate into the carts and onto any badgers still standing. The villagers we manage to bring guide us towards the manor of the Magistrate (technically Wulff's bosses boss).
Any port in a shitstorm.
Our evacuees and the crew itself are pretty roughed up. Pass of Buffalo and the Geomancer were injured from the fight before Mratic and aren't dealing well with being pressure-washed with poison, and the elderly villagers have nine toes in the grave as we drudge towards the manor. Nobody has made a single fart joke yet, and Sprigg isn't going to be the first.
Arriving at the manor, full of refugees from all over the area lining up for shelter and aid, Wulff greets some of the staff he knows from cop stuff. They've quite smartly improvised masks for themselves, but know little more than us, pointing us towards the growing line of coughing huddled folks headed for triage by the entrance. The steward of the manor goes over the arrivals and applies some arcane first aid. Somebody calls her Maritime Eve, as she hurries on to the next patient in a growing line.
As the coughing dies down towards the afternoon and the immediate danger seems over, Maritime eve interrupts Sprigg Sprogg's loud spat with the groundskeeper who interrupted his geological survey, to ask if he has discovered anything interesting. As Sprigg smugly shoos the fella with the rake away and begins to delve into his theories, Dash and Little Snare rush over to emphasize that Sprigg is not the leader of the party and we apologize for anything he said or will say. Maritime Eve takes Sprigg's findings seriously, probably to her future detriment, and ponders if the event could indeed be cyclical in nature. Let's talk.
Maritime Eve is introduced to Fifty Scales of Grey and we do some scheming by the carts. She has read accounts of something like this happening, and it could involve a godling called Hamus, but the relation is murky. The description of our village does stir something, and she knows of the temple, the four-pointed star, and the scythe-wearing godling, naming him one of the Four great godlings of the north. Her uncle is a knowledgeable fella in the Acama desert where she is from, a Paladin of Vengeance. What he is avenging, we don't get to know, as she and Fiddy step into his cart to hash out a deal for borrowing us on a little expedition to big fart mountain.
p.s. We don't know what dragons are. Like there's no dragons in this world, it's just Dungeons and.
