Picking up right after the party's recent unexpected trip to the Astral Sea, the Whiplash woke up in their camp, in the eye socket of a long deceased skeletal being impossibly large.
Deciding to explore the area, the group decided to investigate in the direction of the interior of the skull cavity.
Unfortunately, as soon as they entered into the skull proper, the party found it teeming with roiling masses of wretched abominable creatures that looked like they once might have been humanoid but had been stretched and compressed into misshapen monstrosities.
Roll Initiative!
The battle started off well, with our heroes quickly taking out quite a few of the creatures in the first wave with some well hit arrows and the timely arrival of a passing Spell Jammer luxury yacht owned by an entitled heir of an ancient High Elf family accompanied by his hired security team and a summoned draconic spirit. Unluckily though, that’s when things took a turn for the worst.
A second wave of the creatures reached the team and unleashed their devasting ability - mind control of an enemy for exactly one turn.
Transforming into brain slugs, the abominations attached themselves to the party one at a time and turned the party’s own abilities against themselves to devasting effect. (DM sidenote – not from my point of view: Mwah Ha Ha!) What followed was a brutal slog of party member vs party member as they struggled to fend off the increasing horde. Eventually one of our heroes managed to avoid the mind control just long enough to transport most everyone on the ground to the deck of the ship, and away from the never-ending horde of creatures, leaving just two of their new yacht friends below, surrounded by enemies, and mind-controlled to see each other as enemies.
We ended the session there, waiting to pick up mid battle next session…
